Please join us in congratulating Ed Mitchell as the recipient of the September 1999 Asprey Award. The award is funded by a generous donation from Bob and Jo Asprey and given monthly in recognition of C&N employees who have displayed outstanding service. Bob was an employee of C&N during the 1970’s and 1980’s and still understands the challenges our university gives us.
Ed started working for C&N as a Lab Assistant in 1986 then as a student grader for CS110. Later he worked for Departmental Network Services configuring computers. When an opening came available in UCL maintenance Ed worked for Jared Tarbell as a student. In 1998, when Jared moved on to greener pastures, Ed joined the UCL staff as full timer.
Ed has made real strides in improving the “up time” of the computers in the labs and has gone above and beyond in converting the labs in Jacobs Hall from BNC to twisted pair. He and his crew have crawled through very tight quarters in the ceiling of Jacobs Hall in order to pull the wire necessary for these connections. It is often his efforts that make the labs successful for the students.
